Ichmune .

Ichmune C (Cyclosporine) used to treat atopic dermatitis or perianal fistulae (inflammation, ulceration and draining sinuses around the anus) in dogs. Cyclosporine is classed as an immunosuppressant. By supressing certain cells in the immune system (T-helper and T-suppressor cells) and inhibiting interleukin-2 it is able to reduce the symptoms associated with these conditions.

How is Ichmune used? 
Ichmune C is prescribed according to the body weight of the dog. Dosage is approximately 5mg per kg of body weight. Cyclosporine should be given daily until significant improvement is seen, and then a maintenance doe every two to thee days may be needed. You will usually notice improvement within four weeks. If no improvement can be seen after eight weeks of treatment, you should stop giving Cyclosporine and try something else. Ichmune C has a higher bioavailability in fasted dogs, so it is best to give the capsule at least one hour before or two hours after eating.

Adverse effects
Ichmune C is well tolerated in dogs and side effects are uncommon and usually transient. Your dog may develop gastrointestinal problems such as vomitting or diarrhea. Other side effects may include lethargy or hyperactivity, anorexia, mild to moderate gingival hyperplasia, skin reactions such as verruciform lesions or change of hair coat, red and swollen pinnae, muscle weakness or muscle cramps.

Warnings
Cyclosporine should not be given in the following cases:

• Dogs who have had neoplasia
• who are allergic to cyclosporine
• dogs who have a malignant disorder or progressive malignant disorder

Dogs taking cyclosporine should not be vaccinated with any live vaccine during treatment, or for at least two weeks before or after treatment.

Cyclosporine is strong immunosuppressant. It may make your dog more susceptible to infection and development of neoplasia.
